We suck as parents
So, I’d like to know what “oh crap” moments other parents have had. Now, I wanted ask you of this unless I was willing to share some dark secret of mine.
Here’s the disclaimer…I learned from my mistake. Nothing bad happened, but there was potential for huge ugliness.
We were out at dinner with the family, one of those “BeniHana” type places. Side note: I learned that my mother in law has a huge fear of fire…which makes for a few tense moments at the teriyaki style pryo show.
So, as we ate, Tony became fussy. So Sarah took the first shift while I ate salad. Once I was done, I stood up and held him until he was asleep. I placed him in his car seat, not buckling him in, but just to let him sleep.
We had a great dinner, and once filled with Japanese goodness, we said our goodbyes and Sarah carried Tony to the car. She snapped his seat into the base, and we drove the few miles home…talking about our dinner and the good family time.
It was when I set him down in his car seat at home that I realized we hadn’t strapped him in.
“Oh Sarah Brown…” That and a couple explecitives was all I could say. I felt like bad parent of the year. Sarah…the same.
Again, no one got hurt. There was no malicious intent. I know I never used a car seat/booster seat/seat belts until the early 80’s…and other than a broken jaw, I was fine.
So, there’s mine…what’s yours?

I am so guilty of this. I used to forget to buckle Lena in a lot. Luckily, she could talk so she told me. But I still felt terrible.

Mmm. So many. How about feeding my 5 year old cocopops three mornings running and then getting angry at him for his over-the-top behaviour. Took me three days to realise I was responsible for his over-the-top behavior.
