Meanest Mom on the Planet.
Talk about teens and tough love…A mom in Des Moines found a bottle of adult beverage in her 19 year old’s car. Instead of grounding him, or Chinese water torture…which always gets Jacks attention…she sold his car. If that wasn’t enough, she took out the following ad…alittle salt in the wound.

OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don’t love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet.
So I’m on the fence about this. My hippy part thinks “He’s 19. Let him be a teenager. You can bet he drowned himself in his sorrow over this, so what lesson did it teach him?”
Then the dad part of me is like, “Good Job. Take the power away from him and show him who’s boss. If he can’t be smarter than this, he needs a parent to snap him back.”
I never really drank growing up. I did have a small party my freshman year of college, while my folks were away. It got alittle outta hand, but I thought I cleaned up nicely…except the 6 different brands of cigarette butts around the pool, beer in the baptist fridge , and girls necklace on my rent’s bed post. My southern baptist parents where mostly confused by all this. I told them the truth, had some people over and it got outta hand. It worked and I got a slap on the wrist…but never had another “Parents away” party. Didn’t like the stress…or explaining a girl’s necklace on my folks PG rated bed post.
What do you think. Should mom have sold the car? Or could she have found a different way to humiliate her son?

Here’s the thing, I wouldn’t have been upset that he was drinking…I would be upset that he had (what I’m guessing was) an open container of booze in his car. I don’t think I would have sold it, but I may have taken it away for a period of time.

I agree with Jenny. It seems extreme, but I’m guessing mom & dad bought the car and then thought, hell no. We’re not paying so he can kill himself or someone else. If the boy were 16, I’d totally have sold the car. 19…. might have just taken the tires off.
