House Hunting
We have decided it is time to stop paying $800 a month for a house that isn’t ours. I think the floor repair also helped us start looking. I walked around the house and noticed all the up grades I had done, 2 ceiling fans, another new lighting fixture, all compact fluorescent bulbs, a dishwasher, a timer thermostat, new shelf in the laundry room…all things that I will leave behind. It’s time to put that energy in a house we own.
Now, my credit is still screwed from the previous marriage. So we are keeping our fingers crossed. It does look like we are pre qualified for a first home buyer loan. I’m getting all the paper work together now…tax returns, the last 17 years of pay stubs, family dna analysis…the normal stuff. I am hopefully going tomorrow to fork lift all the paper work to the loan officer. Then we will have 120 days to get the ball rolling on a house.
Now, what are we looking for…luckily Sarah and I have about the same wants and taste in houses. We did figure out that, even though we have lived where we are for a few years, we can’t afford to live there. Most of the houses are 50 to 150 grand out of our league. So, now we branch out. Our landlord is also a real estate agent, so he is helping us out. But, damn it is daunting. Add to that trying to figure out school districts and travel time to Jack, and it gets worse. But, it is a buyers market, so hopefully we will have power that we normally wouldn’t have.
So, wish us luck and feel free to send advice. This is a new frontier for both of us.

Good luck to you both. It’s nice to know that if you want to paint the walls or rip out the cabinets and replace them you can. As for credit, anything can be explained away in a letter. Trust me, I know. You guys will be fine and you’ll have a wonderful home to show for it.
