Hello world!

by

Lil Peep

I would like to introduce myself. The name’s Bryan. I am married to an Amazing woman, Sarah, who is 13 weeks pregnant. I’m a father of a 7 year old boy named Jack. I’ve been married twice. My son is from my first marriage, which lasted 9 years. I have a degree in Acting and Directing…which means I can deliver pizza with a side of angst. I sell theatrical lights for a living.

“So, why are you writing a blog” one might ask. 7 years ago, when, after 2 miscarriages, my then wife and I were fortunate enough to have a successful pregnancy, I wanted to share the experience. Blogs were not as popular at that time, and my wife was a little hesitant on the idea…and by hesitant I mean she said no. Now, having a 7 year old living in another home most of the time, and a wife who is going through pregnancy for the first time, I think I have something to offer. I have been amazed at how simplistic and almost insulting books are towards the new father. For instance;

“Don’t shake the baby”
“Don’t tell you pregnant wife she looks like she’s ‘put on a few’”
“You can’t leave your baby in the trunk while you go bowling”.

I’m tired of reading books and articles that assume that men have no interest in what is going on within the womb. It’s not true…at least it shouldn’t be. I also want to give a good perspective on dealing with a blended family, if you will. How does a adolescent deal with a new half-sibling?

So here I am, to help parents understand some of the whats and whys of pregnancy and child rearing. No, I’m not a doctor. I have a degree in emoting. So, no law suits if you take my advice and your child turns out to be the Anti-Christ. I have, however, picked up a few things along the journey that I’d like to pass along.

I want this to be a very interactive blog. Feel free to make suggestions, ask questions, or leave comments. I’m new to this type of forum, so I will be learning as I go.

Enjoy.

    “Amazing” with a capital A, huh? Must be pretty hot stuff. And she must love you an awful lot.

    This will be an interesting read, I’m sure. Just remember, when she’s in labor you are but her lowly servant. Don’t tell her to hush if she wants to scream curse words in the middle of the hallway. ;) Take that as a tip from the guy still sleeping on my couch. LOL

    Congratulations on the pregnancy. I have a thirteen year-old stepdaughter and a one year old biologocal son. So, I can truly relate to the whole adolescent and half-sibling relationship.

    I agree, Dad’s seem to get glossed over and talked down to when it comes to parenting. Guess we gotta start changing the Dad percecption one blog at a time.

About Sympathy Pain

The "Sympathy Pain" blog is a father's view of what is generally viewed as "woman only" territory, pregnancy. The blog also looks into the blended family and how a new addition affects that family. "Sympathy Pain" is not a battle of the sexes sight, but rather, an open forum for moms and dads.
