Day care blahs II

by

So they did it again…or didn’t… I should say. Tony went from 11:00 to close to 6:00 without food yesterday. This is the second time that he hasn’t been fed in the afternoon.

“Well, he didn’t cry or act hungry and nobody told me to feed him” was the excuse the worker gave Sarah.

I looked over his chart before going in this morning. He had “some” juice at 11:00 and no solid food. So, really, his only feeding there yesterday was at 9:30. It was all on the chart. Now, he had naps and diaper changes in the afternoon…which were charted. So that was my point this morning. Whoever was watching him had the information in front of her that he had not eaten in hours. It’s not rocket science, especially for a “day care professional”.

I told the director this morning, and after the initial…”you must be mistaken, no one on my staff is stupid enough to let a baby go without food for over 5 hours.” she was livid. The last I saw her she was heading into the infant room with weapons of mass destruction (she’s a redhead). She called later to apologize, and promised it would never happen again…

Just like the last time.

So we are looking. We actually may be able to move him in the next couple weeks…and it’s about $100 a week cheaper. How cool is that. Honestly, for that price, they can go without feeding him for days, and we won’t say much.

I kid…mostly.

Man, I’m sorry to hear this saga. I really hope you find a place where they just do their job and do it lovingly.

Somebody needs to lose a job over this one. Better care at a cheaper price-I do it.

[...] I have this gift for saying just the right thing to ease my wife’s fears. Tony started his new Day Care yesterday. Admittedly, I was worried just as much as Sarah. Mostly ungrounded, but anxious none the less. I worried if he would be confused or afraid. I worried that they wouldn’t click with him the way some of the teachers had at the previous school. I worried he would be ignored of forgotten because he’s such a laid back baby…like what happened at the previous school. [...]
