…and I sell lights

by Bryan Comer

A friend of mine, who I worked with a few years ago, has a daughter who is doing something quit amazing. It has caught the heart of myself and my work mate. We’ve known this …young woman for a few yews no, and I really felt the need to share her story.

Cody is in Africa, working with an orphanage. The company she is over there with is TLC Ministries, who takes in newborn and abandoned babies in Africa.

Every week hundreds of babies are being abandoned in South Africa.

Shortly after birth they are left in hospitals, shop doorways, alleys or simply dumped in the veld. What a sad reflection of the pain in our society. Even the most basic instinct, namely motherhood, has been impaired to the point where mothers feel forced to abandon their infants in order to survive themselves.

The Love of Christ Ministries (TLC), was established in 1993, specifically to meet the needs of these, the most innocent victims of extreme poverty, violent crime, homelessness, HIV/AIDS and general social turmoil in South Africa.

TLC is dedicated to salvaging these fresh, untarnished lives, through adoption into a community of families which is structured to focus on one objective. This is to raise and nurture the poorest of the poor into valuable, educated and skilled members of our nation. Since 1993 we have touched nearly 600 young lives.

Through following a course of excellence in upbringing and with the involvement of the community at every level, we believe that TLC’s children are being groomed and gifted to ensure that the concept not only endures to perpetuity but will form a model for many other similar communities in our country.

I’m not going to talk about the religion behind the organization, but I do want to put out there this amazing journey that Cody is on. I felt kinda skeezy getting paid for her writing, so I have started another page that I will post none father related stuff on…it will be up and running in a few days. I’ll let everyone know when, and post her first letter home. Kinda makes me feel silly when all I have to bitch about is this…

About Sympathy Pain

The "Sympathy Pain" blog is a father's view of what is generally viewed as "woman only" territory, pregnancy. The blog also looks into the blended family and how a new addition affects that family. "Sympathy Pain" is not a battle of the sexes sight, but rather, an open forum for moms and dads.
